Wheel of Change and the Wheel of Life

Mission:
Projects
Created:

At this moment in time, the wheel of Life is wobbling considerably.

According to astrologists, by 2020 not one stone will remain on top of another.

I wrote the first draft of this project in 2017. Today I am in the Corona-Lockout of 2020 and the only thing I can add is my hope

that the PRESENT Time may soon become the PAST!

Wheel of Change
Wheel of Change

Someone or something got it out of kilter. It creaks and bumps and threatens to break.

Tibetian Wheel of Life
Tibetian Wheel of Life

Heaven, hell, devil, selfish gods and men alternate with animals, half-gods and Hungry Ghosts  in an eternally unchanging cycle.

Like peeping through a crack in the zoetrope, the faster the wheel turns, the more unstable its movement, the more one needs to concentrate and the less one can recognize.

ZOETROP

and then suddenly…

the wheel breaks apart and the pictures blow up in our face.

An attack! cries someone.

The wheel of time is broken and the hungry ghosts are homeless and roam through the world, while the selfish gods don’t know what to do.

Global warming melts the permafrost, and everything begins to slide away.

Mountains, cultures, and all our riches, are edging ever closer towards the sea where they will forever disappear, like Atlantis.

“… the crowd of influences streaming on the young soul is so great, the clods of barbarism and violence flung at him so strange and overwhelming, that an assumed stupidity is his only refuge. …

(F. Nietzsche “On the Use and Abuse of History for Life”)

“Affrighted fled hell‘s spirits, black in throngs; down they sink in the deep of the abyss to endless night.

Despairing cursing rage attends their rapid fall.”

(The Creation is an oratorio  by Joseph Haydn)

forget it!

“Our life is like the journey of a wanderer in the night”… The images of the world are jumbled. It is dark and everyone wonders if the sun will ever rise again.

Gods, beasts and the devil, Mao and Marilyn Monroe, Zeus, Christ, Leonardo and Nietzsche  ̶  all united in hell’s chaos. The flowers of evil and the fallen pages from the Holy Scriptures are whirring in the air. Mao’s soldiers got lost in the smog during the long march and are singing the Beresina song on the melody of Bella Ciao.

“In certain epochs the Greeks were in a similar danger of being overwhelmed by what was past and foreign, and perishing on the rock of ‘history’. They never lived proud and untouched.

Their ‘culture’ was for a long time a chaos of foreign forms and ideas, - Semitic, Babylonian, Lydian and Egyptian, - and their religion a battle of all the gods of the East!

The Greeks gradually learned to organize the chaos, by… thinking back to themselves, and letting all the sham necessities go...

... After that hard fight, they increase and enriched the treasure they had inherited by their obedience to the oracle (Know thyself)…”

(F. Nietzsche “ On the Use and Abuse of History for Life”)

Find yourself… but how?

Our world has become an immense cabinet of wonders.

We’re in the midst of a flood of images, sounds, forms with no Führer, no Duce, no King, no Guru or Pope – no parents to take us by the hand and lead us onto the ark in order to seek a new world.

 "Et sic in Infinitum"

Robert Fludd’s Square (1617)

The primordial darkness of the universe at the moment before creation!

and then a click

the Big Bang!

...  at the beginning there was the Word, that is an unending sea of signs whose meaning is still not understood…

“Straight opening her fertile womb… A new created world springs up at God’s command…   and teem’d creatures numberless…

(The Creation, an oratory by Joseph Haydn)

O wonder!

"How many godly creatures are there here!

How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,

That has such people in't."

(William Shakespeare, The Tempest)

a Brave New World

“Words can be like X-rays if you use them properly -- they’ll go through anything. You read and you’re pierced.

... But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.”

(Aldous Huxley, Brave New World)

An artist has no other choice; he is condemned to represent the world as it appears at the time his work comes into existence:

My world is nowadays rather rainy, grey and cold. But who knows, it may well have been grey and bleak at the time God decided to create it!

“Reality consists of unending possible circumstances at any one time and it is we who, through the way we look at things and through our point of view, pick one single circumstance and then claim it is the reality, regardless of the fact that, at the same time and in the same place, the next person, through the way they look at things, perceives a totally different reality.”

(translated from Brigitte Röthlein  Schrödingers Katze”)

The world has changed –

That‘s it!

and the Wheel of Life  will probably continue to turn, as if no crisis ever occurred.

With distance, the bumps, the catastrophe, will all appear as a delusion or an intermezzo, perhaps an interlude to dispel the boredom of humanity bearing no other significance than:

“Take a holiday from reality whenever you like, and come back without so much as a headache or a mythology.”

(Aldous Huxley, Brave New World, Chapter 3)
